England starts spring booster jab for 75-plus and high risk people

Individuals aged 75 years and above, people living in care homes and those with a weak immune system can now receive an additional booster dose against COVID-19 in England.

The move comes as official data suggest that the infection rates are surging again in all age groups, including those over 70. UK′s vaccine advisers suggest that additional jabs will help boost protection for those who are the most vulnerable. Wales and Scotland have already launched spring boosters. A more extensive booster program, to include more people, is expected in the autumn.

The UK is witnessing a rise in infections, with one in every 20 people estimated to be infected currently. The additional booster will be given six months after the previous dose. People aged 75 years and over, residents of a care home for older adults, and those aged 12 years above over who are immunosuppressed, or have a weak immune system, can be given the second booster jab… (BBC, March 21, 2022)
